Sterilization

Sterilization Process

The sterilization process is taken very seriously At Blue Star Tattoos Inc...

We use an autoclave to sterilize all our non-disposable tools, for body piercing forceps, jewelry, insertion tapers, piercing needles and any other piercing related instruments. For Tattooing we sterilize tubes, needles and any other tattoo related instruments. The Autoclave is spore tested monthly to ensure that the sterilizing process is successful at all times. And Autoclave is maintenance every year by the manufacture field service reperentive

autoclave

An autoclave is the same device used by hospitals, doctors and dentists to sterilize equipment. Autoclave sterilization is the only way to ensure that all equipment is properly sterilized and safe to use on you.

Autoclaves achieve sterilization through the use of intense steam-heat and pressure over an extended period of time. Items such as dry heat sterilizers, chemical solutions, boiling and alcohol do not achieve appropriate levels of sterilization. Any autoclave being used for tattooing or piercing should be tested by an independent lab (this is called a spore test) at least monthly. At Blue Star Tattoos, we spore test both of our autoclave monthly. In addition, we use a combination of package indicators (which react to heat exposure) and integrators (which react to time, temperature and pressure) to monitor every autoclave load. Before ever being tattooed or pierced, you should ask the tattoo artist or piercer to see the autoclave along with all spore test results and integrator logs.

Prior to being place in the autoclave, the instruments are soaked in a hospital grade disinfectant then rinsed off, the instruments are then placed in a ultrasonic cleaner which removes any stubborn matter then rinsed again, the instruments are then placed in sterile bag before being placed in the autoclave (the best form of sterilization available).

We use single use needles which are opened in front of the client and are disposed of immediately after use into a medical sharps container. These procedures combined, ensure you a safe, clean tattoo or piercing experience.

Blue Star Tattoos In. is Contra Costa County Health Department Registered.

WHAT IS SPORE TESTING?

Spore testing (biological sterilizer monitoring) works on the scientific theory that if the sterilization equipment kills the viable non-pathogenic microorganisms contained on each test strip, then it is capable of killing the weaker, yet dangerous blood borne pathogens, such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis B (HBV), that may be present on the instrumentation being sterilized. The spores used, Geobacillus, stearothermophilus and Bacillus atrophaeus, are harmless to humans, however they are difficult to kill via sterilization. These biological indicators serve as the industry standard determinant of sterilization equipment and procedural ability to achieve complete efficacy.

Blue Star Tattoos Inc. independent lab for spore testing is Enviro-Tech Laboratories, Inc
